WHY DO THIS?

More than a list of names and dates, a family tree can give your a sense of what makes you who you are. It can also helps you build resilience by seeing patterns in how your family has overcoming hard times in the past.

A family tree can offer a holistic picture of the generational influence on an individual and their story.

Instructions

  1. Collect what you know about your family. To start, gather information going three generations back (your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents). Ask family members to share the details of their lives—gather stories, photos, documents, and any other memorabilia.
  2. Next, fill in your family tree using the worksheet provided, or on a blank sheet of paper.

  3. With a pen of a different color, add important details or events. Draw a line connecting details to the family member(s) it relates to.
  4. Now, reflect on your family’s history:

    Does having this holistic view of your family give you any insights into who you are? 


    How have the lives of generations before and after impacted your life today?
